Description

We're an indie microstudio in Newcastle-under-Lyme, and we make games (like Interference - the drawing game) and other fun interactive things (like Zeitgeist - the first live hosted interactive quiz on Mixer).

History

Early history

Centrifuge was founded in 2016 by Nathan Beardmore and Berni Williams, after they left their previous jobs to concentrate on making games full-time. They set up Centrifuge to fully develop Interference which started as a side project back in 2010, made by Nathan for friends and family to play, whilst working as a Microsoft Trainer. It really gained momentum in 2012 when Berni was diagnosed with cancer and Nathan gave up that job to look after her. It was a gruelling eight months of operations and treatment including chemo and 33 sessions of radiotherapy. While Berni slept off the radio sessions in the afternoons Nathan needed something to keep his mind occupied – so he decided to learn how to make apps. He watched some videos by Bob Tabor (of learnvisualstudio.net) and produced a Windows 8 app of Interference.

After that

Berni and Nathan both left their jobs in August 2016 in order to spend more time doing what they enjoy: making fun things. The first project has been to overhaul and relaunch Interference, taking it from what was effectively an early access beta into a fully-fledged game. Future plans involve releasing a series of word games on Windows, iOS and Android, along with what Nathan calls "an Above Top Secret project" (sharing only the words "asymmetric multiplayer" when pressed for details).
